"Colossus of Roads" exhibition extended at Coalbrookdale
Ironbridge Gorge Museum's Thomas Telford exhibition - "Colossus of Roads" - currently on display at the Elton Gallery next to Enginuity in Coalbrookdale is to extend its opening to Friday 7th December. The hours are from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm, entry is free, but it is not open at weekends. Further information from 01952 884391
Thomas Telford Twin Track launch in October
As part of the Borough's Thomas Telford anniversary celebrations a dual track, made up of nearly 400 cast iron plaques has been installed in Telford Town Park. Designed and carved by local young people from the Hadley Learning Community and Thomas Telford School the plaques were installed in a week by a team of eight volunteers. Funding was from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the project was managed by the Telford & Wrekin Arts Team in partnership with the Museum of Steel Sculpture, Shropshire Archives and Telford Libraries with support from AMEC The Thomas Telford Twin Track will be officially "unveiled",involving local schools and community groups, in mid- October.

Grand Birthday Party
Local schoolchildren who share Thomas Telford's birthday - August 9th - were invited to a grand birthday party on that day to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the great man's birth. Generously hosted by the Wrekin Housing Trust the children were be treated to music, entertainment,and lots of birthday cake. Special guests at the party included Lord Grocott of Telford and the Mayor and Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council. Also attending was Professor Leiper, President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, who earlier that day unveiled a commemorative plaque at Montford Bridge, near Shrewsbury, Telford's first bridge in the county.
Montford Bridge plaque unveiling
At a private ceremony at Montford Bridge, near Shrewsbury, on Thursday 9th August Professor Quentin Leiper, President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Thomas Telford 250 years ago on that day.
Thomas Telford exhibition at London's Guildhall
The Institution of Civil Engineers has recently opened its own Thomas Telford exhibition at the prestigious Guildhall Art Gallery, in the City of London. As well as attractive photographic displays of Telford's works (including our award-winning Chelsea Flower Show garden)the exhibition also features rare manuscripts, maps, drawings , letters and other personal effects normally inaccessible to the public. The exhibition is open daily and runs over the summer period. Entry is free
Industrial Harvest Festival at St Leonard's Malinslee

Thomas Telford show garden wins Silver at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2007
The Thomas Telford Toll House Garden won a Silver Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show last week (May 22nd) Although medal winners at other RHS shows this was the first time that Telford & Wrekin Council designers, Michael Vout and Chris Jones, had entered Chelsea and the senior judge commended them on an excellent result. The show gaden was based on the Thomas Telford toll house and garden located on the Blists Hill site of the world famous Ironbridge Gorge Museum. Royal Mail Special Issue: Thomas Telford first class stamp
On March 1st the Royal Mail issued a new set of stamps based on great British engineers and inventors. An impression of the figure of Thomas Telford pondering how to bridge a gorge is featured on the "first class" stamp with brief description on the reverse of the backing paper
Unveiling of the plaque on Hall Park Way Bridge
The refurbished plaque on Thomas Telford's bridge over Hall Park Way in central Telford was unveiled on Friday 9th March 2007. Constructed in 1818 at Cound on the Much Wenlock to Shrewsbury road the bridge was dismantled in 1967 and re-erected in 1988 as part of the pedestrian link between Telford Town Centre and The Bridge Retail Park. Cleaned off by Telford&Wrekin Council. the heavily weathered plaque was powder-coated and brought back to its original appearance courtesy of the parent of a student at Thomas Telford School
